1) Budapest, the capital city of Hungary
This one is quite obvious. Budapest is definitely the most exciting and beautiful city in Hungary. It’s famous of it’s historical sights and architecture. There are so many interesting sights, places and programs in Budapest, that one can never get bored of it.
Hollókő is a picturesque Palóc ethnographic village in Nógrád county. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village was built bellow the walls of Hollókő Castle. It’s famous not only of its castle but its unique houses and traditional shops and folklore events.
Vác is a town located north from Budapest, on the bank of the Danube, in Pest county. It’s most famous of its catholic cathedral, baroque city center and icecream. 🙂 If you are there, take a walk by the river for a beautiful view, and if you walk South enough, you will find two beautiful hidden lakes and a nature trail leading through the woods .
Pécs is an other one of Hungary’s prettiest towns. It’s located on the Mecsek mountains, in Baranya county. Its most famous sights are the cathedral, the mosques that were build in the Ottoman era, its main squares and the Early Christian Necropolis of Pécs (Sopianae).
Szentendre is a popular tourist destination for people visiting Hungary due to its beautiful historic architecture, museums and art life. It’s an other town that’s famous of its icecream among Hungarians. 🙂 It’s easily accessible from Budapest, therefore people who spend only a few days in Hungary can also visit it.
Székesfehérvár is a city located in Central Hungary. It used to be the capital city of Hungary in the Middle Ages. It’s worth visiting for its architecture and atmosphere. There are several interesting builduings in the city, but the one that you should definitely visit is the Bory Castle (Bory Vár). This georgeous castle was buil by Jenő Bory, a Hungarian architect and sculptor. He built it with his own hands for 41 years and decorated it with artwork created by himself and his wife.
Eger is a city located in Heves county, in Northen Hungary. It’s most famous of its castle, historical sights, architecture, thermal baths and red wine.
Tihany is a village on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. Its worth visiting for its beautiful view of the Balaton, the Tihany Abbey, and its lavender field.
Hévíz is a spa town located in Zala County, near Lake Hévíz, the second largest thermal lake in the world. Hévíz Spa is located on the shores of Lake Hévíz, and it’s the best destination for a truly relaxing and refreshing holiday.
Siófok is a city situated on the southern bank of Lake Balaton. It’s the larges city on its shores. It is one of the most popular holiday destinations among both tourists and Hungarians, due to its wonderful beaches and exciting nightlife.
